Abstract
An allozymic survey of five populations of Culex quinquefasciatus (Dip tera; Culicidae) in Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil, revealed very low leve ls of genetic differentiation in malate dehydrogenase, isocitrate dehy drogenase and phosphoglucomutase loci, judging from the low values of F(ST) found. An explanation is proposed, based on seasonal change in p opulation size, sanitation conditions and urban transport.
