304 patients born during 1961-1975 and treated for cryptorchidism betw
een 1967 and 1988 were invited to a follow-up examination. The average
age at therapy was 9.4 years. 98 patients could be examined. The volu
me of all testes could be determined by sonography. The fertility stat
us of 68 patients was known. Success regarding the position of the tes
tes was very good with two exceptions (2 %). The average volume of the
formerly undescended testes (7.9 ml) is strongly pathological, while
the contralateral testes (11.3 ml) were also too small. 84.6 % of the
patients with unilateral and only 50 % of those with bilateral cryptor
chidism demonstrated sufficient fertility. There were no correlations
between the age at therapy and the present testes volume or fertility.
