Abstract
The equilibrium shape of small Sn and In crystals is studied in situ b y scanning electron microscopy as a function of temperature close to t he melting point. Surface melting and its spreading across the surface of the crystals is observed by work function contrast and clearly dis tinguished from surface roughening.
