Gh. Seidler, FUNDAMENTAL THOUGHTS ON TECHNIQUE AND THE ORY OF WORK WITH BALINT GROUPS, Gruppenpsychotherapie und Gruppendynamik, 30(2), 1994, pp. 127-143
Based on object relations theory some thoughts on understanding the pr
ocesses in a Balint group are developed. The group process is emphasiz
ed as a determinant in the presented doctor-patient relationship. The
presented ''patient'' corresponds to an object representation of the s
peaker which was activated in the relationship to the patient. The rea
l relationship psychodynamically has the meaning of a ''trigger situat
ion''. The goal of Balint group work is shown to be releasing the real
interaction partner with all the potential variety of encounter possi
bilities out of the paralyzing onedimensionality of the concrete docto
r-patient relationship.
