Abstract
A qualitative model for the relative and periodic trends in atomic det ection limits in the ICP is presented. This model utilizes a recent ex pression for electron number density, the electronic chemical potentia l, the ionization potential, and the consideration of the relative pos ition of the ionization equilibrium for the neutral atom. A correlatio n is performed for 39 selected elements and correlation statistics are presented. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
