Ta. Painter et al., PROGRESS IN THE MANUFACTURE OF THE CABLE-IN-CONDUIT NB3SN OUTSERT COILS FOR THE 45-TESLA HYBRID MAGNET, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 30(4), 1994, pp. 2204-2207
The 45 Tesla Hybrid Magnet is being built in a collaborative effort be
tween the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory at Florida State Uni
versity and the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory at the Massa
chusetts Institute of Technology. The Hybrid Magnet combines a resisti
ve insert magnet with two Nb3Sn and one NbTi superconducting cable-in-
conduit outsert coll to produce the required field on axis. The Nb3Sn
outsert coils are being built at Intermagnetics General Corporation un
der contract with FSU. A design summary for the entire 100 MJ outsert
magnet is presented. The design criteria and manufacturing status for
the two Nb3Sn outsert coils are described.
