G. Moritz et al., DESIGN, PERFORMANCE AND APPLICATIONS OF THE GSI 3-DIMENSIONAL MAGNET MEASURING DEVICE, IEEE transactions on magnetics, 30(4), 1994, pp. 2650-2653
A versatile Magnet Measuring Device is described, that produces large
maps of the three field components in a volume of 2.7 m x 1 m x IL m.
It's main components are: the machine itself, which is based on a larg
e granite table with slideways and air bearing shoes; the probe arm (u
p to 4 m long); the SD probe head with three orthogonal hallplates. Th
e straightness and flatness of the table and slideways is less-than-or
-equal-to 5 mum, the position accuracy is better than 50 mum while mea
suring ''on the fly'' with the 4 m long probe arm. Four applications a
re discussed: two dipoles, an electron cooling device and a large sole
noid detector.
