Abstract
The onset of Marangoni-Benard convection for a three-layer system is c onsidered in the long-wave limit. Different kinds of instabilities pro duced by deformations of the interfaces are analysed. A new mechanism of oscillatory instability essentially connected with the interaction of both interfaces is found. Peculiarities of this type of oscillation are the finite value of the critical Marangoni number in the long-wav e limit and the quadratic dependence of the frequency on the wave numb er.
