A thermodynamic analysis and evaluation of three types of ammonia-wate
r heat pump systems have been carried out. The types are: conventional
, experimental and reversed. Performance plots are presented for the c
onventional and reversed systems, while relevant comparisons have been
made between the same. The plots are quite handy for computer aided d
esign and operation of such systems. Results from the evaluation of th
e experimental system indicate areas of inefficiency which are a resul
t of the system's hardware. The theoretical simulation of the reversed
system indicates that the feasible range of operation of this system
is very limited because of the low condenser temperature and, thus, lo
w heat sink temperature it requires to operate effectively. Similar pr
ocedures can be extended to related systems.
