Abstract
The authors report a case of large postoperative umbilical hernia foll owing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, which occurred in the early postop erative period despite primary suture of the trocar insertion site. Fo rced dilation of the fascial layer is proposed as the etiological mech anism. This procedure should be avoided and an accurate and aseptic re moval of the gallbladder should be performed in order to prevent fisk of abdominal wall weakness and visceral herniation.
