The authors examined regional cerebral blood flow by using Tc-99m HMPA
O SPECT studies in a patient who received a gunshot wound to the brain
. Although the presence of the retained bullet's fragments adversely a
ffected the quality of CT images and contraindicated MRI studies, the
SPECT examination did not have the same constraints and allowed both t
herapy assessment and prognostic evaluation. The repair of the cortica
l defect could also be assessed.
