Abstract
Tin-nickel alloy films were formed by heating nickel-plated steels coa ted with tin at 180-degrees-C for 72 hr. Corrosion resistance of the f ilms was estimated by use of a salt spray test, the CASS test and an a tmospheric exposure test in comparison with decorative nickel-chromium plating. The formation of tin-nickel intermetallic compounds was conf irmed from results of X-ray diffraction measurements. It was found tha t corrosion resistance of nickel-plated steels coated with a thin laye r of tin was enhanced by heat treatment.
