Abstract
We determined the complete nucleotide sequence of the flgD gene of Sal monella typhimurium which is essential for flagellar hook formation. T he sequence predicts a protein of 232 amino acids and a calculated mol ecular mass of 23 987 Da. However, the N-terminal 86 amino acids of Fl gD were found sufficient to complement all the flgD mutations examined . The predicted secondary structure suggested that FlgD has a high con tent of beta structure.
