Abstract
To provide the optimum level of support for the faculty and research c ommunity, research administrators must continually improve the quality , availability, and methods of acquiring research-related information. Because researchers seldom work traditional office hours, they need a round-the-clock access to information. In addition, researchers' prefe rences, situation, and access to technology will determine how they ch oose to access information (i.e., by telephone, fax, computer network, or personal contact). Computer and telecommunications technologies ar e combined in this model to address both availability and accessibilit y by incorporating the use of cellular phones, voice mail, fax publish ing, Gopher (a distributed document delivery system), and electronic m ail (E-mail). This array of readily available technologies can dramati cally improve the ease of retrieving funding opportunities, announceme nts, forms, and sponsor guidelines.
