Glycosides with glycerol (Gl) and trimethylolpropane (TMP) moieties we
re examined as substrates for the esterification by a lipase from Cand
ida cylindracea. Monoglucoside (Glc-TMP) and diglucoside (Glc2-TMP) we
re effectively esterified with oleic acid and middle-chain fatty acids
such as lauric and capric acids, at 40-degrees-C. Stearic, palmitic,
and myristic acids also gave esters, when reaction temperature was ele
vated from 40-degrees-C to 60-degrees-C. Glc3-TMP was slightly esterif
ied only with the middle-chain fatty acids. The reactivity of Gl-conta
ining digalactosides were lower than Gl-containing monogalactosides an
d TMP-containing digalactoside. Lipases from porcine pancreas and Geot
richum candidum also exhibited considerable activities for the esterif
ication of the glycosides.
