Primary core and solid secondary eddy-current losses are determined in
the electromagnetic topology of a tubular linear induction motor (TLI
M). The nonlinear B-H characteristic, hysteresis and skin effect are c
onsidered in deriving formulas for eddy-current losses. A means to red
uce these losses in the primary core laminations is presented. In addi
tion, techniques for parameter determination of the equivalent circuit
and performance predictions are developed by extending the theory pre
sented in the paper. Experimental results show good agreement with cal
culated values.
