Abstract
The radiation stability, output-radiation divergence, and loss level a re studied for silver halide optical fibers as a function of the input conditions, the bend radius, and the processing quality of the ends. It is shown that, under optimal conditions, up to 50 W of radiation fr om a cw CO2 laser can be transmitted through the fiber, with a radiati on divergence of < 10-degrees after the fiber.
