Bk. Dey et al., SPECTRAL MAPPING OF SIWALIK SEDIMENTS OF A PART OF JAMMU FOOTHILLS, Journal of the Geological Society of India, 44(2), 1994, pp. 193-202
The satellite and ground based spectral data corresponding to the six
reflected radiance bands of Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) are analysed
to determine their utility in mapping the possible lithologic variatio
ns wihtin the Siwalik sediments of J&K foothills. The satellite reflec
tance values plotted along a selected image profile identified subunit
s within the Lower Siwalik, Parmandal and Nagrota, which were not iden
tified by conventional field mapping. The field reflectance studies al
so confirmed their presence. The variation may reflect a possible lith
ofacies change wihtin the units. The technique developed may provide a
rapid reconnaissance tool for preparing lithofacies map.
