Abstract
An asynchronized synchronous generator (ASG) is an electrical machine with a cycloconverter-fed two-axis field winding system on the rotor. The main operational advantages and expedient application fields of su ch machines are considered in the paper. Two AS turbogenerators (ASTG) with a rating of 200 MW were developed and put into operation in 1985 . Their test and operational results have been positive, and on their basis other modifications of ASTG, including ASTG with a rating up to 800 MW, are being investigated and designed. Developments in the use o f ASG for hydro power plants, in particular for pumped-storage and sma ll plants, are also considered.
