B. Koziol et al., CIE INTEGRATED SYSTEM FOR THE CPCM (COUPLED PICKLE LINE AND TANDEM COLD MILL) AT DOFASCOS-HAMILTON-WORKS, IEEE transactions on industry applications, 30(4), 1994, pp. 1127-1133
The CPCM at Dofasco's Hamilton Works (Canada) began commercial product
ion in December 1991. This plant is one of the most modern of its kind
in the world, combining a pickle line with a tandem cold mill for imp
roved productivity and quality. Toshiba Corporation supplied the compu
ter, instrumentation, and electrical or CIE integrated control system
for this facility. The control system consists of the three major subs
ystems communicating over a high-speed LAN (Local Area Network). One o
f the main features of the CIE integrated control system is that the c
omputer, instrumentation, and electrical control systems are independe
ntly allowed efficient and free access to the data running through the
LAN's. Other features include an integrated controller for control of
both instrumentation and electrical systems and a man-machine interfa
ce providing the operator access to data from all three systems.
