Abstract
In the mouse, natural resistance to infection with unrelated intracell ular parasites is controlled by the Bcg locus. With a: positional clon ing approach, a candidate gene for Bcg has been isolated. This gene en codes for a novel macrophage-specific transport protein, Nramp, which is altered in innately susceptible animals.
