K. Osasa et al., CONTINUOUS ELECTROFLOTATION OF O W EMULSI ON BY USE OF ROTARY, ANNULAR-TYPE SACRIFICIAL ELECTRODES/, Kagaku kogaku ronbunshu, 20(4), 1994, pp. 564-567
A novel electroflotation method using rotary, annular-type sacrificial
electrodes was developed to study the efficiency of O/W emulsion remo
val. It was found that the oil removal efficiency increased with incre
asing electric current density and the average residence time of the l
iquid. The efficiency reached a constant value at a high rotational sp
eed of the inner cylinder. This was because loose flocs were broken up
in the range of high rotational speed by turbulence in the intercylin
der gap. Modeling of the separation process was based on the assumptio
n that the removal of oil was due to the flocculation-breakup process
between oil droplets and micro-bubbles.
