Abstract
If F is a finitely generated free group, then the group Aut(F), if ran k(F) greater-than-or-equal-to 3, and Out(F) , if rank(F) greater-than- or-equal-to 4, are not isomorphic to a sub-group of a group which acts properly discontinuously and cocompactly on a 1-connected geodesic me tric space satisfying Gromov's condition CAT(0).
