The kinetics of the chemical reaction and Heisenberg spin exchange of
the ethyl radical with oxygen in the gas phase is investigated using t
he time differential muSR technique in longitudinal magnetic fields. A
t a total pressure of 1.5 bar and a temperature of 311 K, rate constan
ts of k1 = (9.2 +/- 0.6) . 10(-12) cm3 molecules-1 s-1 for chemical re
action and k(ex) = (4.2 +/- 2.3) . 10(-10) cm3 molecules-1 s-1 for spi
n exchange are obtained.
