X-band (9.6 GHz) EPR studies on a single crystal of the solid-state-la
ser material Mn5+-doped Ca2PO4Cl are reported at 295, 190, and 120 K.
The Mn5+ ion substitutes for the tetrahedrally coordinated P5+ ion. Th
e Mn5+ fine- and hyperfine-structure spin-Hamiltonian parameters are e
valuated rigorously from a simultaneous fitting of the EPR line positi
ons observed for several orientations of the external magnetic field i
n the various magnetic planes. Enhanced thermal vibrations of MnO43- t
etrahedra with increasing temperature are indicated from the temperatu
re behavior of the width of EPR lines. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
