H. Kwun et Cm. Teller, MAGNETOSTRICTIVE GENERATION AND DETECTION OF LONGITUDINAL, TORSIONAL,AND FLEXURAL WAVES IN A STEEL ROD, The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 96(2), 1994, pp. 1202-1204
Experimental data are presented that show the feasibility of producing
and detecting longitudinal, torsional, and flexural wave modes in a s
teel rod using sensors based on the Joule nod Villari magnetostrictive
effects. By changing the sensor configuration nod the distribution of
the biasing magnetic field applied to the rod, single, or multiple wa
ve modes can be simultaneously generated and detected. The magnetostri
ctive sensors provide a very simple means of experimentally investigat
ing the properties of wave propagation in a frequency range up to a fe
w 100 kHz.
