Demodex canis is a physiological inhabitant of normal dog skin - mostl
y it does not cause clinical alterations. Massive Demodex infestation
however produced severe dermatitis (= demodicosis). Only dogs with ''p
raedisposition'' fall ill with demodicosis. Cause for this pathogenesi
s is a disfunction or depression of cellular immunity of these dogs. T
