Biosensors require a method of fixing the sensor components to the tra
nsducer surface. For amperometric enzyme electrodes, this means that f
unctionalized electrode surfaces have to be developed in order to cova
lently bond enzymes to the electrode surface. The synthesis and electr
ochemical polymerization of new dithienyl-pyrrole derivatives are desc
ribed and the biosensor characteristics of the resulting electrodes ar
e demonstrated using immobilized glucose oxidase as a model enzyme.
