Abstract
Survey of the technologies for crankshaft forging: TR process, RR proc ess, N-RR process. Application of the finite-element method (FEM) for the optimization of the tool and preform geometry in the VSG process. Simulation and simulation results. The punch and die dimensions determ ined by the FE analysis have been used in practice. Successful forging of a nine-throw crankshaft in a single heat, near-net-contour and in correct angular position. Subsequent heat treatment from the forging h eat and finish machining. Characteristic mechanical values of the expe rimental crankshaft. The VSG process has been approved in the meantime as fibreflow forging process for large-size crankshafts.
