A pair of Ni(II)/Ni(III) ComPlexes with an identical ligand set derive
d from tris(2,4,6-trimethoxyphenyl)phosphine (TMPP) has been synthesiz
ed and structurally characterized. The compound Ni(II)(TMPP-0)2 (1) ex
hibits a trans square-planar geometry consisting of two phosphorus and
two phenoxide oxygen atoms. COMpound [Ni(III)(TMPP-0)2] [BF4] (2) obt
ained from the chemical oxidation of 1 possesses a distorted octahedra
l geometry with two mutually cis phosphorus and two phenoxide oxygen a
toms in the equatorial plane and two ether methoxy oxygen atoms in axi
al positions.
