ON THE CALIBRATION OF THE STROMGREN PHOTOMETRIC SYSTEM FOR F-STAR ANDG-STAR

Calibrations of the Stromgren uvby-beta system in terms of effective t emperature, absolute magnitude and metal-to-hydrogen ratio are reviewe d and the accuracy of the derived parameters is estimated. The importa nce of correcting the photometric indices for interstellar reddening i s stressed and duplicity effects are discussed. The need for very accu rate values of the stellar atmospheric parameters is demonstrated with some examples from galactic evolution and Big Bang nucleosynthesis th eories.
