A restoration system for maximizing the restorable loads in a distribu
tion network using three different restoration schemes, a network stat
e knowledge base (NSK) and a restoration knowledge base (RKB) is descr
ibed. A special NSK and RKB record format is proposed for storing netw
ork information and restoration steps. The knowledge acquisition is au
tomated through the use of a distribution system simulator. Test cases
have been created and their results verified. The proposed restoratio
n system can be integrated as part of an existing distribution managem
ent system.
