NTT receives many reports from customers who have received nuisance ca
lls. As a promising weapon for combating this problem, a selective cal
l blocking service called Malicious Call Rejection was introduced Dece
mber 20, 1993 as a trial service. The service is being provided in a
limited area for a set period, in order to determine its effectiveness
and gauge the effects on the public. The results will then be reflect
ed in the service when it is provided on a general basis. The service
is described below, along with the background to its development.
