A detailed electrochemical evaluation of Sn-modified LaNi5 was perform
ed to evaluate its performance as a negative electrode in alkaline rec
hargeable cells. Substituting small amounts of Sn for Ni provides a la
rge improvement in the initial capacity and cycle lifetime of the elec
trode, and also serves to improve the kinetics of hydrogen absorption-
desorption processes.
