Abstract
This paper highlights the changing patterns of life of the tribal work ers in the tea gardens in northern Bengal. The heterogeneous tribal co mmunities from the Chotanagpur-Santal Pargana region who migrated to t he tea plantation area have become close set economically as well as s ocially. As a necessary consequence, a large number of distinct change s have set in amongst them. The emergence of trade union to serve the interest of their new occupational patterns has effected distinctive a lterations in the life-ways of these people.
