Changes in the cytokine production profile are supposed to be responsi
ble for the different courses of parasitic infections. Therefore, a bi
g effort is mode to understand the roles of cytokines produced by diff
erent cells during parasitic infections, In the following text we desc
ribe first experiments with Interferon-gamma done in a natural model f
or filariasis, the filariae Mononema martini in Lemniscomys striatus.
For the application of this cytokine to the animals we implanted osmot
ic pumps, which deliver IFN-gamma continuously.
