R. Chauvistre et al., TIME-RESOLVED INVESTIGATION OF THE RUBBER VULCANIZATION PROCESS BY X-RAY-ABSORPTION SPECTROSCOPY AT THE SULFUR K-EDGE, Kautschuk und Gummi, Kunststoffe, 47(7), 1994, pp. 481-484
It has been recently demonstrated that sulfur crosslinks can be charac
terized by X-ray near edge absorption spectroscopy (XANES). Using this
new tool in crosslink analysis, this article tries to take a closer l
ook at the mechanism of accelerated sulfur vulcanization of rubber thi
n cuts. It is shown that XANES provides a method for in situ measureme
nts. Especially the temporal development of polysulfides in the rubber
under investigation is clearly visible.
