Gm. Gaeta et al., CYCLOSPORINE BIOADHESIVE GEL IN THE TOPICAL TREATMENT OF EROSIVE ORALLICHEN-PLANUS, International journal of immunopathology and pharmacology, 7(2), 1994, pp. 125-132
This study examined the effectiveness of topically applied cyclosporin
A (CsA) in the treatment of erosive oral lichen palnus (O.L.P.). The
investigation included 20 patients ranging in Age from 31 to 73 years.
The patients were divided in two groups: one group of 10 patients wer
e treated with topical cyclosporin in bioadhesive gel for 10 weeks, th
e other with only bioadhesive gel without cyclosporin for the same per
iod. The study shows remarkable clinical results of efficacy for types
of O.L.P. resistant to ttraditional therapy. The blood levels of cycl
osporin were very low while, the saliva levels collected in the mouth,
mere very high. The relative reduction of relapses, and the absence o
f side-effects, proves that cyclosporin applied as a topical gel might
become a very interesting therapeutic agent in the treatment of erosi
ve oral lichen planus.
