N. Petrov et al., THE ROLE OF THE ADSORPTION INTERACTION BETWEEN PITCH AND FILLER IN THE PROCESS OF BAKING OF CARBON-CARBON COMPOSITES, Carbon, 32(5), 1994, pp. 867-871
The adsorption interaction between the filler and the binder in carbon
/carbon composite was studied. The binder and the filler should be cho
sen so as to realize the maximum adsorption interaction between them.
The optimum composition of the composite is attained when the maximum
part of the binder takes part in the adsorption layer. As a result of
the interaction between the binder and the filler polar compounds, hig
her molecular mass compounds and those with a condensed aromatic struc
ture are concentrated in the adsorption layer. Upon thermal treatment
of the composite, these substances yield a larger amount of solid resi
due than the unadsorbed part of the binder.
