Nn. Peschanskaya et al., NEW POSSIBILITIES FOR THE STUDY OF DEFORMATION KINETICS AND RELAXATIONS IN POLYMERS USING A LASER INTERFEROMETER, Thermochimica acta, 238, 1994, pp. 429-452
An original precise technique for measuring creep rate using a laser i
nterferometer has been developed. This makes it possible to obtain inf
ormation on creep kinetics at any point on the creep curve over wide r
anges of temperatures and deformation values. Some regularities in the
deformation kinetics of glassy polymers have been found. The relation
ships obtained between activation energy and activation volume, and co
hesion energy confirm the intermolecular origin of the potential barri
ers to deformation. The possibilities of studying microplasticity in d
ifferent materials, including brittle materials, have been demonstrate
d. On this basis, the Creep Rate Spectra (CRS) method is suggested as
a low-frequency and high-resolution procedure for application in relax
ation spectrometry.
