M. Michman et M. Oron, OXIDATION OF TOLUENE LINKED WITH RU(ACAC)3 CATALYZED ELECTROOXIDATIONOF WATER, Electrochimica acta, 39(11-12), 1994, pp. 1897-1901
Catalytic electro-oxidation of water is linked with the oxidation of t
oluene. The catalyst, Ru(acac)(3) acts as a reversible mediator. Contr
olled potential electrolysis of water with Ru(acac)(3) at 1.35-1.5V in
the presence of toluene, yields bitolyl and benzyltoluene in small am
ounts. Toluene coupling takes place at least 1V below the overpotentia
l for its direct electro-oxidation and is best explained as caused by
electrogenerated radicals.
