M. Lenglet et al., THE EFFECT OF MAGNETIC-INTERACTIONS ON X-RAY PHOTOELECTRON (2P SHELL)SPECTRA OF OCTAHEDRAL NICKEL(II) IN NIO AND FERRIMAGNETIC MIXED OXIDES, European journal of solid state and inorganic chemistry, 31(4), 1994, pp. 277-287
In contrast to the satellite (found in all cases of Ni(II) with triple
t ground state) at 6 to 7 eV higher binding energy than the Ni2p3/2 si
gnal, another satellite at only 1.8 eV higher binding energy occurs in
antiferromagnetic NiO and ferrimagnetic (such as NiFe2O4) compounds,
but is absent in paramagnetic NiGa2O4 or Ni0.4Mg0.6O, and disappears a
t the magnetic transition in the spinel Ni1-xZnxFe2O4. The detailed op
tical spectra show states of eight d-like electrons in Ni(II) without
any need of strong mixing with d9 and d10.
