Abstract
The distribution of five major Meloidogyne spp. in the United States w as determined from information collected from an extensive literature review and through personal communication with several nematologists. The most widespread species is M. hapla, which occurs in all states ex cept Alaska. M. incognita, M arenaria, and M. javanica are found prima rily in southern and coastal states, sometimes along both east- and we st coasts. M. incognita is the second most widely distributed species. M. chitwoodi occurs primarily in the Pacific Northwest and Rocky Moun tain states; Virginia is the only eastern state in which this species is found. With the exception of Alaska, all states have at least one o f the species within its borders.
