RITUALS AND RESCISSION - BUILDING COMMUNITY IN HARD TIMES

This article reports the findings of a naturalistic inquiry study of r ituals. The findings include how these events build community, establi sh consensus and meaning, expound the value of achievement and leaders hip, and build expectations concerning service. The findings are exami ned in light of the current financial crisis in higher education.
