Lg. Gunnarsson, MOTOR-NEURON DISEASE AND EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS - ETIOLOGIC SUGGESTIONS FROM A CASE-CONTROL STUDY, Journal of the neurological sciences, 124, 1994, pp. 62-63
A recent case-control study indicates that some males are genetically
predisposed to develop motor neuron disease if they are exposed to che
micals, particularly solvents. Markets for such a predisposition are h
ereditary for a neurodegenerative disease and/or a thyroid disease. Th
e reason for this susceptibility might be pharmacogenetic polymorphism
, which causes deficient detoxification entailing oxidative stress and
cell death.
