Partial cardiopulmonary bypass with extracorporeal membrane oxygenatio
n to allow bilateral bronchopulmonary lavage in pulmonary alveolar pro
teinosis has been described. However, this technique is complicated by
a very low arterial Pot and cardiovascular embarrassment. Total cardi
opulmonary support avoids these problems and was successfully used in
a 21/2-year-old girl.
