Effective dietary management in Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus (I
DDM) is impeded by a variety of transient cognitive, behavioural and e
nvironmental events. In the current study forty individual's with IDDM
were assigned randomly to either a treatment group in which they were
taught to identify and change eating in high risk situations for poor
dietary management, or a wait list control. Dietary management and bl
ood glucose control were assessed at pre- and post-treatment, and at t
hree month follow up for the 32 subjects completing the study. The int
ervention produced significant improvements in dietary management, whi
ch were maintained to follow-up, and shea term improvements in blood s
ugar control.
