Dehydropolymers (DHP) have been prepared from isoeugenol and 4-(1-hydr
oxybutyl)-2-methoxyphenol by using manganese dioxide as oxidant. The D
HPs have been analyzed by GC/MS after degradation by thioacidolysis co
mbined with hydrogenolysis. The results suggest that the C-O linkage i
s formed by radical-anion coupling (DIM2 mechanism) rather than by rad
ical-radical coupling (DIM1 mechanism).
