The project RODOS aims at the development of an integrated and compreh
ensive real-time on-line decision support system for off-site emergenc
y management of nuclear accidents in Europe, applicable to the vicinit
y of the accident and its early phase up to far distant areas and late
r stages. As a joint venture of 18 institutions in the European Union,
in close cooperation with institutions in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine an
d east-central Europe, the project is to provide the methodological ba
sis, develop models, collect data, and install the hardware and softwa
re framework of the RODOS system. The paper describes the project stat
us, the overall design of the system and its present software structur
e, and gives a brief overview of important research and development ta
sks for the next project phases.
