Abstract
An avirulent, streptomycin-dependent (Str-D) mutant of Streptococcus s uis type 1/2 was produced and characterized by its antimicrobial susce ptibility, growth kinetics, biochemical reactions and reversion rate. Homologous and heterologous vaccine trials in mice resulted in complet e protection against challenge with S. suis types 1 and 1/2 and partia l protection against challenge with S. suis type 2.
